Dear prospective students,
So you chose to study English Language and Culture? How about that for a great choice! Now the time has come to meet your fellow students and have loads of fun, so do not hesitate and join NUTS, your study’s very own study association!
NUTS has been the study association of the English department in Groningen for over 40 years (we’re around for 45 years in 2018!), and we’re still going strong. We try to make studying English as pleasant as possible and hope to accomplish this by organizing all sorts of activities throughout the year. We have something to offer for every student: drinks, high-tea, karaoke, pub crawl, monthly pub quizzes, and other social and educational activities organised by our activity committee. We also organise an annual Poetry & Music Night in which you can show your poetic and musical talents, and last year we also had the Night of English Literature, where lecturers from our department held talks in the most beautiful bookshop in Groningen, Van Der Velde!
Besides that, as a NUTS-member, you benefit from discounts on your study books at Studystore and all of our events. Our association offers you a listening ear, the opportunity to buy books at a reduced rate, countless exciting activities, and last but not least: the renowned annual trip to the UK or Ireland. Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen circumstances, the annual introduction camp has been cancelled this year. However, instead we’re organising an introduction day especially for new English Language and Culture students. This day offers you the opportunity to meet your classmates before the actual classes start, in addition to being a great experience.
All in all: joining NUTS will make your stay at the English department a lot easier and much more fun!
The NUTS introduction day will take place on Friday the 1st of September, right before the start of the academic year. Joining the intro day will be a great opportunity for you to get to know your fellow first year students and to be introduced to NUTS and its various activities throughout the year. During the day we’ll take you on an exciting trip through Groningen during the afternoon and end the day with dinner and drinks.
The costs of this day are €20,- for members, which includes lunch, dinner, and activities. If you want to benefit from the discount, make sure to join NUTS before the event (see Membership). To sign up, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org before Monday the 28th of August, in which you state your name, phone number, and food preferences/allergies. (please note: we have to make a reservation, so signing up is necessary)
The fee should be paid upfront and transferred to NL89 RABO 0346 2152 18. Once signed up, we’ll provide you with more information on the intro day as soon as possible.
We hope to see you there, and we will make sure you will have a great start of the academic year!
The costs of the NUTS membership are €15,- per year. To join NUTS, please send an email with your name, student number (if possible) and your email address to email@example.com, and transfer the sum of €15,- to our bank account: NL89 RABO 0346 2152 18. Please mention ‘membership 2017-2018’ in the description, to make sure we will receive it properly.
We are looking forward to welcoming you as a member of NUTS!
