Are you experiencing mental or personal problems? Here are some some people, institutions, and organisations you can contact.

Many students encounter study- or phase of life problems during their studies. For example, they experience stress complaints, struggle with their identity or feel anxious or depressed. In such cases you can contact the psychologists of the Student Service Centre (SSC).

The psychologists can help students and PhD students from the University of Groningen with:

  • Problems relating to your studies, such as stress
  • Psychological problems, such as anxiety or depression
  • Phase of life problems, such as issues relating to your identity.

Besides psychologists, the Student Service Centre (SSC) also has trainers who offer a broad range of free* courses and workshops for students, to support them with their personal wellbeing. Topics and examples to support mental wellbeing are:

  • Dealing with stress (for example dealing with writing anxiety, successfull exam techniques, work-life balance, mindfullness)
  • Self-discipline (for example stop procrastination, study- and thesis support groups)
  • Personal development (for example living to the full, assertiveness, fear of failure, socializing, bullet journaling)

You may find yourself struggling with problems or questions that require understanding and a “listening ear”. It can be a great help just to be able to talk to someone outside your own circle, e.g. to an All Ears worker. All Ears workers are not students themselves, but they are in close contact with students through their professional or personal background. Hence they have an intimate knowledge of the kind of problems “being a student” entails. These talks are low-treshhold and without obligation. You can drop by without an appointment at the Harmony Building. Everything you discuss remains completely confidential.

Similarly to All Ears, at @ease you will find a “listening ear”, however one of the differences between the two is that @ease also offers a chat service. So, something on your mind? Talking about it helps! At @ease you can simply walk in or chat online: anonymously, without an appointment and for free.

Frisse Gedachtes is a student movement that aims to improve student well-being. It does that by offering three free services. Firstly, a chat platform where students can chat anonymously with psychology students and experts. Secondly, the option to be randomly matched to a fellow student in order to be able to go for a walk together. Third, events to make student wellbeing more open to discussion.

Forte GGZ wants to support you as a student to find the cause of your problems and offer possibilities for treatment. Their team of psychiatrists and psychologists is also more than willing to contact your study advisor, if you want them to. Common problems for them are hyperactivity disorder (AHDH), anxiety disorders, autistic spectrum disorder, depression, personality disorders or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Switchboard is the information and support service for the lgbtqi+ community in the Netherlands, providing a listening ear and comforting words. Unbiased and confidential.

Call or chat to make a report of sexual assault or rape. Everything you discuss with them is treated confidentially.
